Rewards are one of the sure-shot ways to ensure productivity. If the employees are convinced that every positive contribution from their side is being recognized and acknowledged, they feel motivated and perform better. The reward need not be a fat cheque; because people value many things much more than money.

A simple get together to mark the completion of an important module could boost your team’s morale. A memento with the names of the team members inscribed can encourage the team members to repeat the magic. Positive and thoughtful feedbacks

Every time there is a review meeting, the employee is anxious as to what his superior is going to talk about. I know the feedback you give might not be always positive, but there is a better way to do it. Communicating negative remarks in the most thoughtful and encouraging way could help the employees take it in the right sense and work on it effectively. Feedback time is not a time to bash the employee for his inadequacies and shortcomings, but an opportunity to instill confidence and hope to do a better job next time. This makes the employee work harder and prove himself rather than feeling dejected and low.

Telecommuting and Flexible work hours

Oh yes! Telecommuting was thought to be a productivity killer till recently. It was believed that productivity of the employee could be measured (and kept track of) only when he is physically present in the office. But today the employers are convinced that employees don’t need a micromanager to get their work done. It is in fact found that the productivity of employees working from home are much more productive than employees working from office. It is a good gesture to include work from home as the company policy. Next time an employee is a little sick, she might opt for a telecommute and finish her work rather than taking an off.

Flexibility in working hours also helps increase the productivity. Some people are more productive in the early hours of the day, while others prefer working late in the day. A 9-5 schedule might not work well for all.
